The Dance Factory, the Dance Forum, Moving into Dance Mophatong and Vuyani Dance Theatre / Gregory Maqoma, referred to as The Newtown Dance Corner in Johannesburg / South Africa, have decided to join forces to create Crossings with the support of the French Institute of South Africa and several other partners. It will take place from 23 July to 7 August 2011.
Crossings is an international workshop for young professional choreographers, composers,dancers and lighting designers under the supervision of a team of international and established artists (2 choreographers, 2 composers, 1 lighting designer and 1 dancer).
The purpose of Crossings is to give an opportunity to young international artists to collaborate together in order to show a 12min-long artistic creation on the stage of the Dance Factory at the end of the two-weeks residency. The dance classes and workshops will take place in Johannesburg at the Newtown Dance Corner which houses on the same premises the studios and stages of the Dance Factory, Dance Forum, Vuyani Dance Theatre and Moving into Dance Mophatong. Next door, the Bassline will provide studios to composers.
