Welcome to our September Newsletter. In this issue, we have the latest information for our forthcoming Indaba and AGM; announcement about our Official Submission to the ISCM World Music Days; details of competitions as well as the usual reminder of opportunities. Likewise, if you hear of any composers’ or performers’ opportunities, just send an email to me at [email protected]. NMSA Indaba 2018 Plans for our Indaba are well under way. It will take place in Nelson Mandela University, South Campus in Port Elizabeth from Friday 5 to Sunday 7 October. We would love to see as many of you as possible attend this, our main event of the year. We have three evening concerts and an informal student concert plus many talks and discussions planned. To see the complete programme, please download here for the latest edition. AGM We have already announced our Annual General Meeting to our members. It will take place on Sunday 7 October in the Nelson Mandela University, South Campus, music building staff room at 16:00. All members are invited. ISCM World Music Days, 2019 The following composers and their works have been selected for submission to the ISCM World Music Days in Tallinn, Estonia, 2019 (in alphabetical order): Michael Blake ...only the song of the birds François de Villiers Yearning for Fulfillment Jaco Meyer Imitationen Keith Moss Hymn for Klara and Eva Franco Prinsloo Pula! Pula! Abraham van Eeden String quartet, 2nd movement These composers entered as part of the Official Submission for the ISCM’s South African Section. The WMD festival will take place from 2 to 10 May 2019 and the ISCM have stated that they are obligated to select one work for performance out of the six. We will announce the selected candidate when we are informed by them. International Composition Competition 2019 Culture Meeting Point are organising this competition which is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. Works that have not won any competitions in the past may be submitted. Participants may submit as many compositions as they want. Compositions may be for a solo instrument or a duo combination of two instruments among western classical symphonic orchestra instruments with or without electronics. In this case an instruction explaining the use of electronics must be included. The composition should not exceed two players. Compositions must be original, between 2 and 15 minutes duration. Each entry must be accompanied by an MP3 audio file which may be live or computer generated. There is an entry fee of 40 Euros for each composition submitted. Candidates take note of the fact that the jury will not make any queries in respect of applications. Please visit their website for further information. Please note deadline: 31 March 2019. Reminder of Opportunities 10th International Composition Contest “La Mancha Guitars” This is a competition for the composition of a guitar ensemble work to encourage young guitarists to enjoy their playing.
