NMSA INDABA 2017

This year’s Indaba will be held in Grahamstown from 13 to 16
September. The Indaba Team are now sending a Call for Submissions which can be found on our front page or by downloading it here. The deadline is 17 July. Note that, in addition to music
compositions to be performed, submissions include Collaborations; Workshops;
Masterclasses; Presentations, etc. Please note the theme of the call.

LATEST INFORMATION FROM ISCM

For those of you who were successful in their score submission to the ISCM
World Music Days, to be held this year in Vancouver, Canada, we have heard
that they will let us know the final selection on or after 3 May. We will
inform those whose submitted works were sent for selection as soon as we know
and let everyone know the result in the next newsletter.

CALL FOR ARTICLES ON MUSIC

Matete Mahlare is calling for articles to be published in an on-line
magazine, called ‘Lyrics’, which she planning to promote later this year.
The article can be about anything musical and any genre reflecting issues in
South Africa, or any other part of the world.

NORDIC COUNCIL MUSIC PRIZE

Hot off the press! We have just received news of the Nordic Council Music
prize, for which you can visit their website http://www.musikpris.com for
information.

Apparently, it was announced yesterday that Yggdrasil (Faroe Islands) has
been nominated.

The information just might be useful to you for promoting existing concerts
in Rochester, DC, as well as organizing concerts in South Africa & Russia.

PREMIO VALENTINO BUCCHI

*37th Annual International Competition for Interpretation.*

Note that this is a competition for performers of a solo instrument. Please

details.

Note that it is for performers of flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, trumpet,
trombone, saxophone, piano, accordion/bayan, harp, guitar, violin, viola,
cello or double bass born after 1 January 1980.

To participate in the competition, candidates must send the *registration
form filled by July 21, 2017* to: Secretariat of the International Contests,
Foundation Valentino Bucchi, Via Ubaldino Peruzzi 20 - 00139 Rome – Italy.

​INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION


The next “Città di Pinerolo e Torino – Città Metropolitana”
International Chamber Music Competition (for the Cities of Pinerolo, of
Torino, and of its surrounding area), which is part of the *World Federation
of International Music Competitions* in Geneva, will take place in Pinerolo
and Turin *from 5 to 11 March 2018*. In 2016 the jury of renowned musicians
awarded prizes amounting to 23,000 euros to winners chosen from 100 musicians
belonging to 42 chamber music ensembles (under 33 years of age) from all over
the world.

​Nominations for the 2017 BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge awards are

now open.

The *BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards *recognize and encourage
fundamental advances in basic and applied research, as materialized in models
and theories for understanding the natural and social worlds, technological
innovations of broad impact and salient contributions to the creation,
performance and conducting of the classical music of our time. Honours also
go to outstanding contributions that advance understanding or deliver
material progress with regard to two key challenges of the global society of
the 21st century, climate change and development cooperation.
