Welcome to our August Newsletter. In this issue, we have news of our Indaba; news of the Visby Residency; a call for works in various categories; news from our members; performance news of an event in South African as well as the usual reminder of opportunities. As always, do let me know of any newsworthy items, for the next issue, that would help you to publicise your events in or after September. NewMusicSA Indaba 2017 Due to unforeseen circumstances, dates and venue for this event have had to be changed. We will now be holding a short Indaba in Pretoria from 10 to 12 November. The venue for 10 and 12 (Friday and Sunday) will be the Tauromenium and on Saturday 11 at the home of Douglas Scott. (Please note that events on 10 November have still to be confirmed). We will send out full programme details nearer the time but, in the meantime, we ask that anyone who can be there during these dates please diarise them as we would like to see as many of you there as possible. This is NMSA’s main event of the year! Visby Residency Congratulations to Diale Mabitsela as he has been selected by NewMusicSA to attend the four-week residency in Visby, to be held from 19 September to 15 October. Diale will join a composer selected by the Sterkfontein Composers Meeting for the four week period. 29th European Music Competition – Citta di Moncalieri This competition is dedicated to young musicians of all nationalities. ‘Ek verlang na die plaas’ will also be performed for a second time at the Gaudeamus Muziekweek, Utrecht, as part of the "best of the young composers" concert (see above website). Press report can be found here. Also shown on Roché’s website is information about a performance of ‘So Glad Soos Seep’ in the No Frontiers Music Festival in Birmingham, UK. Links to both pieces can be found on his website. We wish Roché well for his future career as a composer, which he now plans to develop in the Netherlands. Performance News Information of an exciting event, provided by Franco Prinsloo follows: The renowned soprano and harp duo, Jessica Ng and Judy Ho, from Hong Kong will be presenting a concert series in South Africa in October 2017. Please visit their website where full details may be downloaded. Note the deadline for submitting their application form is 15 September. International Chamber Music Competition The next “Città di Pinerolo e Torino – Città Metropolitana” International Chamber Music Competition (for the Cities of Pinerolo, of Torino, and of its surrounding area), which is part of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, will take place in Pinerolo and Turin from 5 to 11 March 2018. In 2016 the jury of renowned musicians awarded prizes amounting to 23,000 Euros to winners chosen from 100 musicians belonging to 42 chamber music ensembles (under 33 years of age) from all over the world.
